| Subject: Pegatron Plans to Produce 12-15 Million CDMA iPhones in 2011? Fri Jan 21, 2011 12:27 am | |
| Digitimes is reporting that Pegatron is now planning to produce between 12 and 15 million CDMA iPhones in 2011. That is up from a reportedly planned 10 million phones. Here’s an excerpt: Taiwan-based notebook maker Pegatron Technology has recently started shipping its Apple CDMA iPhones orders with total volume is estimated to be around 12-15 million units in 2011, helping to cover the company’s notebook manufacturing business, which has recently suffered loss of orders, according to sources from upstream component makers. First off, these numbers seem to include both CDMA iPhone 4s and the next-generation iPhone that is expected to be released sometime this summer. Secondly, the report makes no distinction on where these CDMA iPhone are going. Yes, Apple has only announced a partnership with Verizon for CDMA coverage, but do you really think Apple isn’t going to bring the CDMA iPhone to other countries? Lastly, its been reported that Foxconn and Pegatron are sharing the manufacturing load evenly, which suggests that if Pegatron is producing 15 million, Foxconn may produce an extra 15 million CDMA iPhones. | |
